Top Man United target set to snub club, join Real Madrid

If Manchester United do plan on firing manager Louis van Gaal in the near future they may have to start the coaching search with one of their top targets unavailable. Apparently former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho plans to avoid a another Premier League stint and return to his old stomping grounds with Real Madrid.

According to the Metro, football analyst Jason McAteer claimed that he spoke to former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon, who told him that Mourinho is “100%” going to return to the La Liga giants.

“I was with (Ramon) Calderon and he said 100% that Mourinho is going back to Madrid. 100%,” McAteer said.

Chelsea fired Mourinho in December after claiming just 15 points in the first 16 matches – the worst start to a Premier League title defense in league history. The Blues were also eliminated from the League Cup title by Stoke City after winning the tournament last season.

Mourinho managed Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, winning 71.9% of his games along with the La Liga title, Copa Del Ray, Supercopa de Espana and making three-straight Champions League semi-final appearances.

Prior to Saturday’s win over Swansea City, Man United had failed to win in eight consecutive matches in all competitions and scored just four goals in that span.
