Arsene Wenger hits back at Arsenal legend’s critical assessment

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has delivered a strong response to Thierry Henry’s criticism of the team’s recent performances.

The former French international discussed the reception the players received at the full-time whistle following the loss to Swansea City on Wednesday night, claiming that it was the angriest that he had heard at the Emirates.

Having been dealt another title blow, Wenger has been on the defensive this week as his side prepare to take on Tottenham in the north London derby on Saturday which could prove to be decisive in terms of their chances of winning the Premier League this season.

However, the Gunners boss didn’t take too kindly to Henry’s observations and reminded him that perhaps it was difficult for him to notice from his seating area.

“Thierry Henry has his opinions. He has not found the measurement of the fans’ angriness of 60,000 people straight away, because he sits in the best seats in the stadium,” told reporters, as noted by ESPN FC.

Meanwhile, Wenger remains confident that the supporters will back his team on Saturday, regardless of their current poor run of form which threatens to see them miss arguably their best chance of ending their wait for a league title in years.

“The fans will be behind us, I don’t worry about that. It’s one game where the fans are always behind us,” he said. “It’s down to us to give them even more belief and make them more vocal by the quality of our game.”

Wenger refused to be drawn on suggestions that the season would be a complete failure if they did not win the league, as naturally he is fully focused and perhaps slightly desperate to avoid another disastrous setback this weekend.
