Potential Chelsea boss eyeing international defender as possible Terry replacement

Antonio Conte is understood to be keen on bringing Leonardo Bonucci to Chelsea as a long-term replacement for John Terry should he be appointed this summer.

The Blues replaced Jose Mourinho with interim coach Guus Hiddink in December but are yet to appoint a long-term successor for the departed Portuguese coach.

Similarly, the future of captain Terry remains undecided, with the Telegraph noting that no final decision has yet been made on the legendary skipper’s future, although his current contract comes to an end in the summer.

The tabloid’s report indicates that, regardless of Terry’s future, Conte is keen on Bonucci as the 35-year-old’s long-term successor

28-year-old Bonucci moved to Juventus a year before content to go in the two men enjoyed great success together, winning three Italian titles during their mutual time in Turin.

Since the manager took over as Italy coach, a job he will hold until after the European Championships, he has regularly selected Bonucci, and even chosen the Juve defender as his captain on occasion.

Should the Italian move to West London, he would at least have to compete with the likes of Kurt Zouma, Gary Cahill, and Branislav Ivanovic for a spot in the heart of the Chelsea defence.
