Arsenal in three-way transfer battle for alternative to Jamie Vardy

Category: Uncategorized

After missing out on Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, Arsenal have reportedly turned their attention back to Alexandre Lacazette.

Vardy opted to sign a new four-year deal with the Foxes earlier this week, thus ending talk of a possible move to the Emirates after the Gunners had exercised the release clause in his contract.

In turn, Arsene Wenger has had to consider other options, and according to The Mirror, that has taken him back to a familiar target in Lacazette.

The French forward was linked with a move to the Premier League last summer, but opted to stay in his homeland where he scored 23 goals in 43 matches for Lyon.

That form has led to continued interest from around Europe, with The Mirror suggesting that both Atletico Madrid and West Ham United are also keen on acquiring him ahead of next season.

With three years remaining on his contract and coupled with the fact that the French outfit are not under any pressure to sell, it remains to be seen which of the three interested clubs are able to meet their demands.

What is clear though is that Wenger does need to bolster his attacking options ahead of next season with a striker that is capable of scoring goals consistently.

The likes of Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck failed in that regard again last season, which contributed to the fact that Arsenal finished second in the Premier League behind champions Leicester.

As a result, Wenger will be under pressure to bring in more new faces this summer, having already swooped for Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka who joined the club earlier this month.
