Diego Costa transfer: Atletico Madrid begin talks over re-signing Chelsea striker

Category: Uncategorized

Atletico Madrid are understood to have begun talks with Chelsea over re-signing Diego Costa after making him their number-one strike target.

Spanish publication Marca reported this morning that Costa was on an Atletico shortlist which also included Gonzalo Higuain and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

And now the Daily Mail claims that the La Liga outfit have opened negotiations with Chelsea after deciding that Costa was the most viable option.

According to the Daily Mail, the Blues are aware that Costa is unsettled at Stamford Bridge and is attracted to the possibility of returning to Atletico.

The 27-year-old left Madrid for Chelsea in 2014 and enjoyed a great debut season in London, scoring 20 goals as his new club romped to the Premier League title.

But his second season was not nearly as fruitful as he struggled with form and fitness, and now Atletico seemingly aim to take advantage of his uncertainty.

Diego Simeone’s side have money to spend this summer after the sales of Radamel Falcao and Jackson Martinez, as well as improved television rights money.

And Chelsea may be preparing for life without Costa. The Daily Mail reports they have agreed to sign Michy Batshuayi from Marseille, and are also keen on Alvaro Morata.
