Liverpool have reportedly agreed to sign Bury youngster Emeka Obi, with the 15-year-old set to join the club once they receive approval from the Football League.

Obi has impressed at Bury, and despite his young age he was able to make his breakthrough and featured in a cup game earlier this season.

Having already grown to 6ft 5ins tall, the teenager undoubtedly has a significant presence in defence, and will be seen as a promising young talent that boss Jurgen Klopp can help develop.

According to The Daily Mail, he spent time on trial with Stoke City during the summer, but Liverpool have beaten them to his signature and are said to have agreed a six figure fee in compensation to sign him with add-ons and a possible sell-on clause to be included in the deal.

Bury manager David Flitcroft had high praise for the youngster, but it appears as though he could be resigned to losing him to the Reds provided that the Football League and Premier League give the green light for it to go through.

Klopp has shown throughout his managerial career, and never more so than during his time at Anfield thus far, that he is more than confident in placing his faith in youth.

A string of talented youngsters have made progress under his stewardship on Merseyside, including the likes of Ovie Ejaria and Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Obi may well be the next individual to benefit from the German tactician’s approach provided Liverpool are able to wrap up a deal.
