Doubts raised over future of Tottenham’s most influential figure by football panel

Part of The Sunday Supplement panel this past weekend have raised question marks over whether or not Tottenham can keep Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine tactician is doing a stellar job at White Hart Lane for the second consecutive season, as they remain hot on the trails of Chelsea in the Premier League title race this year.

With just four points now separating the two sides coupled with Tottenham’s recent form, they will be full of confidence while their rivals may well start to feel the pressure ramp up in the coming weeks.

However, looking at it long term, The Sun’s Shaun Custis still has reservations over whether or not Pochettino will be in north London long term if Barcelona come calling.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on launching a double swoop worth £125m for Atletico Madrid pair Jan Oblak and Antoine Griezmann.

Not content with a major summer of spending last year, it appears as though the Portuguese tactician will get the green light from the United hierarchy to continue to build a stronger squad.

According to The Daily Star, that involves spending £85m on signing Griezmann who has been a long-term target for the Red Devils, while also splashing out on £40m-rated Oblak in the event that David De Gea opts to move to Real Madrid at the end of the season.

It’s added that Mourinho has regularly sent scouts to watch Oblak who has impressed in the Spanish capital and has established himself as one of the best shot-stoppers in Europe.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has insisted that meeting Alexis Sanchez’s reported wage demands would be damaging to the club in more ways than one.

The Chilean international will see his current contract with the Gunners come to an end next summer, and so there is a growing concern at the Emirates that he may leave this summer in order for the club to avoid losing him for nothing.

According to The Sun, his £300,00o-a-week wage demands are causing a big issue, with Wenger telling reporters that ultimately it can’t be done.

That salary is more than Paul Pogba earns at Manchester United and double Mesut Ozil’s wage packet, as noted in the report, and so it’s no real surprise that Wenger has looked to quash talk of Sanchez’s demands being a public discussion.

“If we pay that it can destabilise t...
